My Seemingly “Unusual” Reprieve

This path I’ve been choosing for amusement

also beckons when the depths of confusion

feel like they’re swallowing me up;

enveloping me like a serpent’s clutch.

This is freeing,

although my breathing is labored –

not drawing enough oxygen.

Battling gravity pulling me back again.

Spinning my wheels for tenuous traction,

but this action clears my mind of distractions.

Failure is an option I’m unwilling to embrace.

Focus:

smooth cadence;

steady my pace.

My perplexed mental state washes away in streams

of sweat down my face as I’m weaving between

botanical spires lining the way to the apex

where, finally…

I may rest

and more easily take breaths –

cooling the burn in the muscles that churned.

This respite from worldly concerns alone was worth the battle.

Victory is mine!

A cleared mind found astraddle this aluminum steed!

My stresses relieved.

It’s all down hill from here,

both literally and figuratively,

until I get back to the block

and incredulous eyes watch.

“Look at this nicca; is he…?

Gotdammit, yes, I am, my man…

a Black mountain biker!!

And kats actin’ like, “Now, I seen it all.”

As if I can’t broaden my horizons past playing ball.
