In a foreign country I've faced a lot I've left home at a tender age abandoning all that I ever knew The oath of a promise I've prayed for solemn return In the hopes that not too much has changed while I've been away There have been nights that I've longed for sleep Knowing that it'll never come. Nightmares lit across the sky like fireworks on the 4th There have been times I couldn't look myself in the mirror Afraid of the person I've become All dismissed with the wipe of a towel after a fresh morning shower The oath of a promise. Where does it begin, does it ever end I've counted the days backwards and forwards The hue of the night sky covered in beige red tint I've fired my weapon in times of fear I've fired my weapon blindly, without reason to why it's being fired The soles of my boots covered in sludge Bent down seeking refuge Anywhere but here, I thought Anywhere but here Then it happens The deaf tone ringing from the loud explosion beside me A burst of yellow devouring everything in sight This was her heart This was mine
