The ILLness

Although I am filled with black pride
I feel that it is necessary to express what I feel inside
It may seem to you that what glitters is truly gold
But peel back the surface, and you'll she what this truly holds
What you are about to read in this poem, is something that many don't want you to see
Because many people will tell you we don't have a problem... and that is a problem to me
This is something that many of our own dont even want to hear
But I must speak on it, because we have lost to many loved ones over the years
Please do not ignore nor overlook the words I am about to say
Don't write this off, I'm aware his may not fix the problems we face
I'm just speaking honestly, and honestly it seems we're stuck in the mud
In case you haven't noticed... the street that your children play in are running red with blood
And they tell to go to church, they say God is what we need
But they can't see, that when all you see is death, it's hard to believe
No blasphemous, but just askin how do you expect one to believe in Heaven
When kids are killing kids for sport, and everyone just accepts it?
They say its a harsh world, and that's true... but it's a world that we live in
And in this world... you only get out of it exactly what you give in
And from the outside looking in... its easy to write all of this off as silliness
Well, for this moment I invite you in to see our world for what it really is
So once again, this is a disclaimer, I have pride for the race I pridefully claim
But I have no love for this destructive mindstate that have us binded in chains
And if my time is coming to an end, then I'll spend that time bringing change
It's time that I address these ILLs...

Once one contracts these ILLs, everything becomes surreal
Those infected lose their cool to the point they just want to kill
Those infected will show no love, because they no longer feel
Those infected only show strenght in the caliburs they conceal
Once the ILLness is contracted, it quickly kills off the innocence
The ones you know are no longer there, they are replaced with a menace
Women contract this ILLness and pass it on to their children in their stomach
Those not infected see the destruction and its too much to even stomach
Those infected hit the streets with armories in their pocket
Looking for any small reason to pull out and pop it
Those infected will leave other infected in the street
And since infected are killing infected, no one chooses to speak
Once infected, you no longer care about status
Spend money on frivilous things, when it should be used for court fees and caskets
Once infected, the only thing to quell the pain is destruction and power
Like fiends, they need this every second, minute, and hour
Chalk outlines are the only thing left of the infected in the street
The ILLness thrives in the strong, kill you off when you're weak
Breaking news on the local station at 10
Another life lost, a mother crying again
She prays to the Lord for peace, but the pain won't leave her alone
She too becomes infected... and the ILLness spreads on
To avoid this ILLness is like playing a game of chess
If you don't plan your movements carefully, it will have you in check
The ILLness is the number one disease affecting our people
Spreads as fast as influenza, kills you before doctors can see you
The ILLness burns so hot, yet leaves one heart so cold
You can no longer reason with the infected, because their conscious is froze
Some would call it luck, others would call it a skill
I say you are blessed beyond believe if you have yet to contract these ILLs
Because this ILLness is rapidly claiming our family and friends
Can take a lifetime of work, and bring it to an abrupt end
There is no vaccine and there is no pill
Our brightest our still brainstorming for a way to kill off these ILLs
But as far as we know... we accepted the fact that there is no cure for this disease
And since that's hard to belive, I figure I would make you aware with this piece.

I do not have an answer, but the first step for a glimpse of a solution is to recognize that there is a problem. Powerful words from the heart. You never know what your words may inspire. Thank you for writing...
