Stupid He Stupid Me

Today I decided to get work done on my car, but a simple conversation was taken too far  
Got damn Stupid He always wanna start with me  
He needs to just learn how to let things be   

He blows things out of proportion, makes me mad and cuss  
For Stupid He and Stupid Me, we just had a fuss  
I always say don’t give no one that much power  
To keep you angry inside and out, hour after hour     

He wanted his friend to fix the part  
But not the part of my shattered heart   

I don’t want his friend doing nothing for me  
So I brought my car to the mechanic and paid them the fee  
Why did Stupid He keep on calling and calling  
Did he think Stupid Me would even want to be bothered?

So as I sit here and think in this stupid car shop  
I turned my cell phone off so ...

Explanation Season is Over

I’m at a place in my life where explanation season is over. I’m not explaining nothing to convince, reassure, persuade or bring comfort to anyone’s doubt, uncertainties, insecurities or lack of trust.

If you asked me what I was doing and I said I was busy, then I said what I said. I’m not explaining what I was busy doing, how long I was busy or what I did after I wasn’t busy. If you’re not satisfied with my response, then that’s on you. You gon be alright.

People have been used to me explaining myself to reassure them. But you know what, that wasn’t on them, that was on me. Now, you get what you get how I give it. We still cool, we still friends, I still got mad love for you… but just know, explanation season is over.
You know how this young generation say, “say less?” Got it!

I been Goateed

Dear World,

It’s Capricorn season!                                                                        

Our season ends the year and WE start the year. And you know what? So many people wanna be “a Goat,” and debate over who is “a Goat” and who is not. But if you are born a Capricorn then you already know, we been Goateed! Yes been, since birth. Why you think it’s called Capricorn the Goat… duh.
As a Capricorn, we dominate and intimidate. We are driven and determined and best believe, we are VERY Vocal. As some may know, we are the most chilled and unbothered. And no lies told, we are very friendly and we are fun-ny. We are the life of the party, we turn up and we turn off.

Some say we are stubborn and cheeky (and is) and it’s only because it’s our way...

I BEEN Approved

So right before I moved to Texas, the property manager where I was moving to called me and said, “Ms. Dright, I just want to let you know, you’ve been approved.”   
Now, as much as I have heard those words before, at that moment and at that time, those words hit my brain different. It was a “Wow” revelation moment. And what was revealed to me was - She’s right, “I BEEN approved.” I been approved wayyy back then, like been. 
I been approved, approved by God since birth. So you see, everybody might not know, some just finding out, some might find out later and some may never know, but yeah, “I BEEN approved!”

So next time someone tells you you’ve been approved, just know, they are just now catching up cause you been already knew. And, if there’s ever a time when someone tells you that you are NOT approved, don’t be sad or disappointed, you didn’t do nothing wro...

I Write how I Write

Dear Reader,

I am a very well-educated writer. As we know, poetry is an expression of the poet’s thoughts and feelings. I write how I write, and as a poet, I allow the reader to be inspired by taking them inside this mind of mine. There are times when subject verb agreements won’t agree, and that’s okay. That’s the way I wanted to say it, that’s the way I wanted to write it. I don’t need no spell check or auto correct; I wrote what I wrote the way I wrote it.

I am Woman… not just today, but every day.

I am courageous, I am creative, I am beautiful…
I am strong, I am independent, I am vivacious…

I am this, this, this, and this…
and that, that, that and that…
The titles are never ending… I am Woman!

Growing up for me, there was no book or instructions on becoming - 
Becoming a woman, a mother, a conqueror…
Becoming a teacher, a leader, a friend…
Becoming driven, determined, destined…

and if there was… I didn’t read it, nor did I need it.
That would have been the writer’s opinion or story of what a woman is in their perspective. That person’s story or journey could never be my story or journey.

My journey as a woman meant, I chose to walk my own path.
Didn’t wanna walk in nobody else’s footprints, so I created my own.
