Church Girl

One of the many things I am thankful to
Yahweh (the Lord) for is my wife.
One day Yahweh (the Lord) had me
notice a beautiful woman.

She was standing in her sales
department at a retail store.
I thought to myself I will
introduce myself on my lunch break.

Through conversation we learned
both of us were friends with the same people.
I recognized there was something special about her.
I discovered she was a Church girl or a Christian.

She was also a schoolteacher.
She was a member of a Baptist Church.
She was the type of woman I needed in my life.
We ended up dating for six months and got married.

Our marriage has lasted more than 20 years.
We are still going strong.
We both started attending Bible class together
Bible class changed our lives.

We really enjoyed learning about the Bible.
Bible class helped shape us into a strong
husband-and-wife couple. We are thankful
Yahweh (the Lord) brought us together.

His success can be seen globally.
With 8 grammy's under his belt.
Smooth R&B songs are what the people felt.
He gave us a spectacular Superbowl LVIII halftime show.
Drew 100 million + USA tv viewers into his R&B flow.
Usher has a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame.
He will be remembered by loving fans who scream his name.

Malcolm X

Malcolm X renowned for his oratory skills.
Like a soldier performing daily drills.
A civil rights icon and fighter of human rights.
He had his life on the line days and nights.
A life cut short, like an unfinished song.
His legacy will continue as we sing along.
Oh, Malcolm a decorated hero to blacks!
A life well lived as we read history facts.

George Floyd

George Floyd, 9:29 was how long his death lasted.
George said " I can't breathe" is what he broadcasted.
Murdered by a Minneapolis officer who was white.
The officer's knee on George's neck was not right.
This was certainly police brutality.
The cause of George's mortality.
We must speak out against social injustice.
This is why I am totally disgusted.

My Journey to Know God and Jesus

My journey to know God and Jesus begin when
my mom suggested that I start going to Church.
The Church was within walking distance from
my house. I was a youth at the time.

I started to know God and Jesus by way of the
Lutheran Church. The Lutheran Church I attended
was a Black Congregation and the Pastor was Caucasian.
The Lutheran Church I attended was St. Thomas
Lutheran Church on the South Side of Chicago.

My experience with the Lutheran Church was joyful.
I remember the feeling of tranquility when entering the Church.
I remember eating the bread and wine called Communion.
I remember the feeling of my sins being forgiven
and I was redeemed.

I remember being an altar boy. In the Lutheran Church
they are called an Acolyte. An Acolyte (Ack-O-lite)
helps with the service. I remember the feeling of worship
as we sang hymns to God. I remember...

Church Girl

My Bible Class

In my second year in college.
I was invited to a Bible class.
I was not a Christian.

Overtime I begin to change.
The Bible class I was a student in was small.
There were 50 + faithful students in class.

We had Bible class 3 days a week.
We had a small choir with 15 people.
The choir sang praise and worship songs.

We had regional Bible class conventions.
We enjoyed lectures, worship music, and fellowship.
I enjoyed my time at Bible class.

I grew as a person.
I stop living for myself and started honoring God.
Now I'm motivated to share the gospel.
