Whenever they speak with you
everything is stiff and formal
as if they are afraid
of making a mistake
yet, when they speak to you alone
they're relaxed and open
they are noisy
and nosey at best
rude, crude and choicy
about insignificant things
they expect you to fail
at best you're a test case
tease you, berate you
at every opportunity
even if, few
and far between
choose willingly not to accept you
in their circles
because they know if they did
you'd know how truly shallow they are
all pretentious and petty...
while sitting pretty,
like they're
wearing a mask
whenever they choose
to communicate at all...
they stick with their cliques
unless they need you
to contribute
to their causes
even when nothing applies
to your causes
never call when there's
positive things happening
just downcast eyes
or vacant stares
keep secrets from you
use sign language
in reference to you
when they think
you're not looking
make themselves at home
with your things
or at least expect you
to freely share your treasures
while being stingy with theirs
take collections for their
sorrows and difficulties
but you see only
meaningless prayers
when your hardships almost get
to be more than you can bear
got unlimited unsolicited advice
on personal matters
their feelings exclusively
actually telling you
what they do and do not like
about your business
makes you want to scream,
knowing their dream
is not to be chosen
by your team
and your dream
is not their dream
their friendship is only
the first of their lies
word to the wise...
don't waste your time
free your mind,
turn and walk away
you want to give
them another chance
but too bad, it seems
today is not that day
tomorrow's not looking
so promising, either
