ER0TICA VS PORN
Both erotica and porn have their audiences; both are “valid” genres, both can be very good or very bad. A few years ago, I wrote a number of porn stories. Though they were well received on Literotica, I was bored with (what I felt is) porn’s lack of substance, soul and depth… when compared to erotic writing. I am in no way, anti-porn writing…as
I’ve admitted, I’ve been a porn author with a strong following base; however, I do take issue with those who confuse the two forms. They are distinctly different in many ways. (I do not mean to slam porn writers or readers; if you feel that my opinion is unduly harsh, I sincerely apologize).
Erotica requires thought and imagination; it alludes to intimacy, it is art that is produced by an artistic mind and enjoyed by an artistic consumer. It invites the reader to adapt the written to his or her taste, person(s), and fantasies. While it is deliberate, erotica is slow lust; it is a perhaps and a could be… it is foreplay, afterplay and afterglow. Erotica is flirtation; it is word tease and word play. It is articulate seduction, the sizzle and the steak, it is implicit. To a discriminating male, it is the text of Sharon Stone slowly crossing her legs.
Porn can be erudite, but is usually explicit, and primitive; it literally spells out crudity. Porn bypasses anticipation & journey; it focuses on the destination, it is addressed “to the box holder” (no pun intended). It has no nuance of romance; it is rape-by-words, a blunt instrument. Porn was created for the wired instinct of the four-legged carnivore… the predator. It is geared to be read by the one-handed typist, the premature gratification junkie, the “needs the suggestive avatar to fantasize”, selfish, non-creative type. Porn is Grindhouse; it is the desperately made pick-up at “last call”; used and intended only as an object and never seen again. The best porn is personal, written from just one person to just one other.
Erotica is a laser light show, complementing a symphony.
Porn is two dozen fluorescent bulbs, burning in an empty closet.
As a published romance and erotica author, there is a fragile line one can and is always capable of intermingling when writing sensual romance and erotica romance.
When I am writing for publication or simply for posting on various sites, I will write from my heart in regard to what feelings uplift my heart. Romance in general is erotic within itself; it is the act of mentally suggestive depiction of any sexual nature in all its splendid glory, in addition, without finding fault behind its merit to convey.
Erotica is more descriptive; it is the balance of the ink stain to shade in when vague words can no longer express or conjure such mental illusions to satisfy the mind or the hunger of sensual worded foreplay.
Porn is a crossover when the suggestive in nature is balanced of desire, lust, and passion to me, and it is strongly preferred when written with its best intention. I am of French lineage, and we do not view sexual liaisons as porn or erotica; that goes for the credence we find in the zeal of the arts. We look upon the act of receiving and giving as the art of pleasuring. America and its suggestive standards have placed unfounded tags on emotions, feelings, and sentiments. With that being said, we are a nation of sensual creatures and that is by nature.
There are no hindrances to place upon the intensity of indulgence whether you are viewing or writing it. I can understand we all have our opinions and that is what makes narrative interesting; nevertheless, some of your arguments are obscured and please forgive my candor, my poet, but they lack sound judgment, in addition to speaking overall in blatant content. Subsequently, I can only respect your right of contention with humbleness and foresight.
However, there are exceptions… hear me loud and clear, which are universal exceptions! When misguided and mentally deranged people who have sickening minds read, write, or view anything related to child porn. (Child pornography under federal law is defined as any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor (someone under 18 years of age).
I had to outline that, being a counselor, I will always state what is never written or what one never seems to mention or verbalize to the masses.
Other than that criminal aspect of engagement, the liberation of freedom should be looked upon when a consensual adult writes or muses what they ‘convey’ as being erotic or porn, whether it be to inspire, uplift, or incite free will. I write on various themes in both genres, I role-play under both, and I publish under erotica. I never differ in content, and that is only because I enjoy what I write and after seven novels, with my eighth novel copyright pending (Once Bitten Twice Fallen), I’m adaptable to fuse both genres at times, nervertheless, I still continue to receive royalties from both, and my novels, with the grace of my Heavenly Creator, my works of art get checked out in several libraries.
In as much, preference does require tastes, not intellect behind the pen. However, do you think a person by the name of E. L. James who wrote the Fifty Shades Grey series became the number one erotic author with anticipation for her movies? The book element was erotic with graphic sexual content.
I can articulate as an author on any subject matter and place emphasis on the virginal interactions between man and woman or heighten the mental pleasure with dripping wet sexual envisioned narratives to make anyone’s libido achingly hard or climactically hot.
Therefore, when you see the words porn, erotic, lust, sex, my favorite themes, you best believe, you will enjoy the carnal ride of my mind on canvas as I share with you. It is the gift of my pen to kindle that animalistic nature we all have obscured; I’m just here to tap into your imagery senses to bring it forth.
