A Question of Values

November is often called the month of giving, gratitude, and reflection. As the year begins to draw to a close, many of us take time to think about what matters most, not only in our own lives, but also in the lives of others.

Recently, my goddaughter was assigned a school essay and chose a question that I found surprisingly thought-provoking.

If you inherited $100 million, along with several hundred acres of land, what would you do with them, and why?

At first, the answer may seem obvious. Yet when we look beyond the dollar amount, the question becomes less about money and more about values. Would you focus on family, community, charity, education, business, healthcare, or building a legacy for future generations?

For this discussion, you may choose only one of the following options:

• Build tiny homes on your land for your entire family.
• Open an RV community park.
• Build a hospital in a rural community.
• Open a food pantry.
• Open a homeless center or shelter.
• Donate a significant portion to several charities and nonprofit organizations.
• Create scholarships or fund educational programs for students.
• Open or support an animal rescue or sanctuary.
• Purchase land and generate income through rentals or leases.
• Lease land for a Data Center if approached by a company.
• Invest in stocks, bonds, and other assets to create wealth for future generations.
• Establish a foundation dedicated to serving a community or cause.

The challenge: You may select only one option. No combining choices.

So, which would you choose?

More importantly, take a moment to reflect and then simply ask yourself:

Why?

Sometimes the most revealing answers are not about money at all, but about the values we hold, the lives we hope to touch, and the impact we wish to leave behind.
