If we engage
in scorched earth policies, 
we leave bitter tastes,
broken promises
and bad memories
and our relations cold 
our interactions cruel
our passageways of giving 
bruised and abused 
our communications limited in ways
that highlight inhumanities
the pattern self replicated
and every innocent act 
becomes interpreted 
as another attack
…seen as a new way 
We are being used
once we’ve crossed over into
 the realm of death and destruction
after the tidal wave of our misfortunes peaks
and leaves us lost, our spirits broken
alone on the desolate plain 
of pain and misery
…and as our worlds 
collide repeatedly
And the bridge of understanding
Finally collapses, 
due to the most inhuman indignity
Caught up in the vacuum of hopelessness 
Another convoy ambushed 
Of our intentions
In effort to provide relief
Suggests to all but the strong 
of faith and heart
Our sense of happiness
Is lost all but the memory 

What happened to us all
Once, followers of a journey to a cause that’s just
And what substitute, this exaggerated salute
To what pursuit this sport this ruse
In effort to replace 
the old crutch we used to use
when ancient wisdom ruled 
silly thing this rush to make new tools
Where loving touches used to be
Our humanity was proof
Love was the glue 
which held our worlds together
…plain to see
