I searched the old familiar haunts,
for a face, assign, or a token
To ease the pain of a wandering soul,
and mend a heart that was broken
Alone and sad, I anxiously wondered
How two trothed souls in flight
could lose one another in the celestial fog,
On an eerie, windless night
Deep in thought how it all came about
With my head against an ancient birch,
I heard a voice from out of the mist,
Saying, "don't give up the search":
Reaching for hands I could not see,
I awoke to a muffled scream,
the eyes of my loved one told me
We'd both had the self same dream
we held each other in the eerie night
Until dawn cast its shadowy clue,
Then we thanked the Lord for another day,
and we pledged our truth anew
