My Father (06152025) today is father's day
oh, happy day to all the men who deserve to be celebrated everyone who knows me know it's not one of my favorite days I learned how to forgive I forgave but there are some stains that won't go away though they may have faded with age they still can be seen it is written to honor thy father and thy mother it is also written father's do not provoke your children to anger it took a powerful dose of humility to lose the hostility and aggression I fostered some I grew up with didn't have a father well of course they did but never seen the man or didn't know who he was I seen mine all the time hate is a strong word I try hard to keep it out of my vocabulary but that man brought every ounce of animosity out of me my father don't deserve no honor after all the hell he instilled in me I don't believe he deserve to rest in peace everybody said he
was a good man my reply he was a lousy dad |
Question Marks (06152025) stripes across my legs arms and behind remind me of how deep those extension cords cut into me like lacerations from a sharp blade my mother is squeamish she hates the sight of blood and violence it's hard to believe she's the same woman who drew blood from me disciplining me cracked my brothers head wide open with a 1970 platform shoe she beat us purple black and blue I sustained broken fingers fractured ribs from being wacked with a broom stick and hit with broken legs off wooden chairs if that ain't violence I don't know what to call it I mean it behooves me how she leaped from a woman who committed all those acts of premeditated violence to a woman who swears she wouldn't harm a flea or fly the lie detector determined that's a lie I got the scars to prove otherwise |

My Sister Can't Fight (06042025) one time I fought a windmill
and the thought of me fighting
a windmill tickled me so
much I lost the fight against
the windmill I couldn't stop
laughing she was all over
the place I had no choice
but to moved out the way

Morning's Verse Of Life (06032025) time holds its breath before I draw my own
wrapped in quilts of generational filth
the shadow of secrets whispers to me
awake by the suns first touch
steam rises from the kettle
sipping tea in the ghetto in the kitchen
window I gather thoughts
while birds rehearse their daily verse
I'm here to hear the first song
taking note of music ringing in my
ears my eyes wander
through the cracks in space
between asleep and awake
in the hour of beginnings
vaporizes the weight
of what occurred on the pages
yesterday the canvas of today
awaits the brush dipped in paint to
colorize the blanks between the
leaning tree's speaking hope into
being focussing in on the words
written on lea... |
When We Face The Truth did we do enough
should we do more
do we care enough
should we care more
did we see enough
do we want to see
more are we giving
all we can give
or are we giving
just enough what
can we do if it's
out of our hands
should we refuse
to have anything
more to do with it
do we dissociate
from the situation
to display a lack
of responsibility
should we take
responsibility
for decisions
we did't make
when most decisions
we didn't make
shape the aspects
of our lives
transmitting
trauma across
generations
passed down to
our descendants
manifesting a
disease called
mental illness
in the upbringing
of the offspring
we are the blame but
are we at fault

Trust (06032025) trust why do we trust
who do we trust
why do we trust who
we trust we want to
feel safe and secure
around those we have
strong emotional
connections to
and those who
we have shared
experiences with
trust gives us a
sense of belonging
we generally
care for those we
trust and those
we trust generally
care for us
we should be
comfortable around
those we trust
but are those we
trust trustworthy
do you test the trust
do you believe the
trust is mutual
do you know your
friends as well as
you think you do
do you know your folk
your family your
people as well as
you think you do
is it reciprocal
trust can keep you
safe trust can
also land you in
danger life and
death ... |
