John S. Pemberton Invented Coca Cola
As a remedy for his morphine habit and to make payola
He was a pharmacist, but I was alarmed by this...
He served as a Confederate Lieutenant Colonel
And got a saber wound at the Battle of Columbus, chest injuries internal
Then was discharged and later became addicted to morphine to dull the pain
To cure his addiction he created a drink laced with cocaine
His bookkeeper coined the name Coca Cola
He thought it would be a hit (he was right), but it struck like a cobra
It didn’t sell, his business failed, so he sold all of the rights for $1,750
In 1880, that was worth about $45k in today’s money - pity
John died broke and addicted and so did his son
I had a bottle of coke just this morning, my last one.
