Robeson versus Robinson both icons have my upmost respect
A young Richard Nixon got Robinson to do something he’d long live to regret (twice)
In 1949 before the House Un-American Activities committee
Robinson was pitted against Robeson it was such a pity
Robeson said that Black Americans should not fight against Russians
And was called before Congress for a humiliating discussion
Robinson disagreed with Robeson’s views
Argued that he didn’t represent nor walk in all black people’s shoes
As America’s hero reluctantly testified
Brothers and sisters across America each died a little inside
Some called him an Uncle Tom
As an Anti-communist Mr. Robinson was wrong
But the black community knew all along
There would be no winners
To be the first and black there are no free dinners
In 1960, Robinson choose Nixon over Kennedy for POTUS
In his final years Jackie Robinson was bitter and refused to stand for the flag but nobody noticed
