Walking through a forest of memories

Along a trail of ancestral footprints

I stepped on a pyramid stone—

Piercing my mind with the pain of reality:

Reality…dreams are not;

They’re just introductory directions.

Reality…visions are not;

They’re mere paths to be traveled.

Reality…reality is!

And so is the present life we still struggle in.

To have dreams…to have visions…

Are not realities; merely hopes.

Being walled up in our skins

By bigotry, deceit, and injustice,

Are pinball realities… propelling

From one deceiver to another;

Reality is.  Not something coming to be:

Deferred dreams remain just that—

Deferred (indefinitely);

Broken visions remain just that—

Broken (forever);

Without struggle (always)

Freedom concedes nothing.

It’s surely a staunch reality

That walling oppression remains

But a Jericho strategy will not work;

The reality is that we must amass

A battering ram spirit…so let’s get real!
