Black History (back to Africa)

I insist that we

Learn black history

Our struggles and triumphs can’t be a mystery

America got its power off our backs and creativity

Who farmed the land? Black folks!

Who executed the plan? Black folks!

Who fought hand to hand?  Black folks!

Who gave them song and dance?  Black folks!!!

Whoot, whoot!!!!

Door knobs and ironing boards

Were invented by our people

Tree trunks and hollowed goards

Music and creativity been embedded in our people

I can’t say for certain, but wouldn’t be surprised

If the same sista who invited peanut butter and jelly also came up with French fries!

You know the first boiled egg that was ever made

Was a brother thinking they gonna love this and look at how much time I saved!

Long before Dr. King and and Malcolm X

Black folks hopes and dreams been long put to the test

Stolen from a land

Shackled feet and hand

Identity, religion, and names stripped

Raped, humiliated, killed, violated and whipped

Terrorized, brainwashed, like caged birds our wings clipped

Stressed and malnourished yet

Somehow we still hip!?!

Discriminated against for our hair, skin, and full lips

Black is beautiful my people let’s take a trip!

Back to Africa, Marcus Garvey was our forerunner

Live in America in the Spring and summer

Then sail to Africa in the winter and fall

America would crumble, and say we can’t lose all of y’all!

That Black Star cruise liner would be so lit!

Entertainment and Barbecues for weeks across the Atlantic!

This dream can be a reality

Brush up on new languages and put away some of your salary

In a black bank like One United

I’m just writing down my dreams and getting all excited!

Wakanda forever!

Fiction to reality, fam we so clever!

Our destiny is only limited if we say never

Give us free?

Who are we?

Kings and Queens

Whenever we dare to endeavor!

Stars aligned when our kind built pyramids with just our minds and a lever

When we shoot for the stars

We’ll heal our all our scars

The path to the future is our past

Black History my people - free at last!!!

Nosajm, thanks for sharing this beautiful and powerful write. I hope our youth get a chance to read it and learn that Ourstory began long before the landing of the Mayflower and the original "lockdown" in the belly bowels of slave ships. Write on Sir! Peace and Love, mlowe5
