We are not like fish out of water,
flopping around to get back in; rather,
we are human beings flipped and flopped
around to be kept out of mainstream life.
And it has been made clear that to not do so
would imply that we should be all-inclusive
in a nation that declares to be the epitome
of “democracy for all.”
The irony of it all is that fish can be thrown
back and freely swim on, but we are thrown
back to suffer and freely die.
