Though I’ve enjoyed
The awareness it brings,
I myself, have never done
The open mike things;
Yet, been blessed
To mike the word
At other gatherings—
Praying that some
Will be strengthened
By my renderings:-
Now, don’t get me wrong,
I love the way rap
Makes us aware
Of the oppressive slap
With its racist thorn;
And I am inspired
To simply pen the word
They are rapping
And should be heard—
So listen…beloved herd!
