(Dedicated To Some 3rd Graders I Know)

Thought my poetic cistern had run dry

Until I heard a small child’s tearing cry;

Then I realized I need to share some words

With them before I die—

What follows is divine wisdom and guidance

Given me before I expire:-

                         I

You are a child of love and beauty,

Each day, mirror these two qualities;

Reflecting them in each day’s duty:-

Be as a flying dove of your God

As you soar with your wings of oneness

Sharing love’s and beauty’s sweet reward:-

Show each day how these two make all calm;

That where they are, their peace will abide—

For they bring about God’s healing Balm:-

In the presence of beauty and love,

Hate and oppression can never be;

They can’t survive what’s sent from above:-

Never forget whose light you are to be of;

Always strive to be a shining human dove.

              II

You know I love you,

Always being true to you;

Always here for you

       III

God created much—

So many beautiful things;

You are one of them.

       IV

Who else could you be

But the child of God you are?

Be God’s truth of you.

               V

Behind the rainbow,

Black glows in its beauty;

Look again and see:-

       VI

You laugh and giggle

At things that are not funny—

Not yet realized:-

        VII

Cease being sorry;

Be aware of ignorance:

Enlightening comes:-

        VIII

“To not know is bad;”

“To not wish to know is worst:-”

Always seek to know.
