a song sung

Dear Angel

I heard you sing.

Phone pressed on my ear,
your voice came through,
beautiful in its innocence.

It echoed through,
resonated with my heart,
and sparked a tear or two,
as it should, I suppose.

Pride welled up inside,
along with the emptiness felt,
thinking of what distance steals.

Apart we may be,
but that voice, as you sang,
triggered something,
touched something,
something I wish could be buried.

However, it lingers,
like the distance between us.

Someday, when I'll hold you,
I'll return to this moment,
when you graced the world,
beaming with pride,
of the angel I held.
