When you look into my eyes

what exactly do you see?

I wonder if I'm displaying an image

I would recognize as me

Do you navigate past the eyes

Then travel into the soul

For a glimpse of all the treasures

I try my best to withhold

There's more than what meets the eye

You can not judge this book by his cover

I wear a poker face

but underneath hides a lover

a brother and best friend

a son and leader of men

the type of person you meet once

and will never forget again

My loved ones ask me why

I construct multiple walls

That only serve the purpose of concealing my deepest thoughts

I say, I want to see who's willing to scale despite the risk of a fall

Who's curiosity will have their mind, body & soul searching for more

My walls are not in place to feed a big ego

I've actually given too much to some people

Heart was on the sleeve

Emotions pinned to the collar

Gave a few the benefit of the doubt

Ignoring my inner shouts

I've become a little more selective of what the people see

I appreciate the ones who actually get to know me

That read between the lines to understand how I tick

That see the things I choose to reveal as not a given but a gift

Something that's precious that not everyone gets to see

When I share these things with you

I'm sharing a part of me
