I do not distribute nor partake of drugs

I detest the taste of Old E and MD

I am… neither thief nor thug

I am… not that black

My black is not the symbol of

Poverty and lack

You mistake me for being country

Not that something’s wrong with that

I am…not a southerner

Dreadlocks did not originate in

Louisiana, Alabama nor Tennessee

They are symbolically energy and strengthening

I am…not that black

I do not sag my pants I own a belt

I do not beg for handouts I take care of myself

I am…not that black

That black that you speak of

That black you give no love

That black that you think nothing of

I am…not impressed by a sinner’s wealth

Though I am…a sinner myself

I am…not that black

I am…that black whose ancestors you

Oppressed, jacked, cheated

Beat, raped and killed

I am…that black saying to you
