Her voice is melodic
like fine music being played.
Her cadence hypnotic
as she walks away –
she has mastered the art of leaving.
However, lately, it is her greeting
that has my chest heaving
to accommodate the beating
of my schoolboy-crush heart.
There’s familiarity in her tone
and a gleaming in her smile
each time that I approach
after not seeing me for a while
like she acknowledges my absences
and values my returns.
That awareness in and of itself
is grounds for my concerns
