astounds me
an experiment
has wildly exceeded
its normal boundaries
having properties
like water
contradictory,
no less so
where the artist
meets the scientist
cave paintings
...in my mind
common sense
or not
somewhere
from
a distant
past
we
learned
what
not to
eat,
where
food was
even,
where
to find food
where food
was not known to be
and how not
to be killed or eaten
when and where
we were most
...likely to be found
it was not
purely by accident
or should it be said...
we learned of this...
and could start
to foresee
and influence
or learn
to cope with things
we had begun
to see occur in cycles
days and nights,
the moon the tides
the seasons,
birth and death
the natural characteristics
of this experience
we call life...
and what goes on
within it
and without it
what about it
have you
studied enough history
to
understand
the nature of man;
amidst
the mystery
to
accentuate the positives
and to
attenuate the negatives
we who learn
a little at a time...
no
wonder,
why
we
live
so
long
it takes
more
than
a
little time
to
learn
how to accept
the
factual
and practical
reality
we
screw up
...a lot
some
seem more
persistent than others
endowed
with a great abundance
of tolerance
for pain
as if
repeating
failures...
were
a virtue
not
a vice...
as in
building
an
immunity
to
the very poison
which
is the freedom
that flows
within
our blood
just as
spiritual energies
flowing
throughout
our souls
that which
use like winds,
sailing ships
since ancient times
yes,
the
physics
if it
could be said
that misfortune
should not
be fit
instruction
as
to how
to conduct
ones course
we should be
in our life,
such
scholars
there
may be
so little time
to correct
what we have
ignored...
yes...
ignorance,
albeit intentional
has cost us
greatly,
will cost us
more dearly
still,
pray
that we will learn
within our time
survival by communicating ideas
has brought us here...
it has been no accident
believe it or not
all the seemingly crazy
half+baked notions
of odd thinkers and heretics
brought us where we are
how dare that you believe,
differently
what did you imagine
possible…
watching other animals
observing
other natural phenomenon
who
would have known,
what
and why not
try
with guile,
not
unlike the cat,
to catch birds
when you could not fly
or the fish
when you could not
swim faster,
you who
did not breathe the water
who says
that you can’t navigate
or tell the seasons
by the stars,
to walk in space,
not only
to leave the atmosphere
but set foot on the moon
or further,
maybe even mars,
to make our homes
among the stars,
or even live as gypsies
between the interplanetary systems
of our choosing
even though
it might take generations
of us living in between
worlds...
confident
that such reasoning
to be valid enough
to stake
our collective futures
upon
like global warming
or Iraq
where is the physics
in that?
if
we are to
survive
it seems
we’ve got
to find...
better ways
to continue
to thrive
not merely
to just get along
…but, to live…
maybe i am wrong
to say this...
although,
the hour is late
you will know not
when the end will come
for us...
individually
and collectively
there was something
written long ago...
about a bridegroom
who was to be a spirit+keeper
might just as well it be said
by the grim reaper
to so many those of us who
never hear to the train that’s coming
while here we are walking the tracks
say what you might know of
the doppler effect not knowing
the properties of what you fool with
or how dangerous nature can be
have we forgotten, again?
what we play with in ignorance
can erase us from the space
between our period and the next
you who could not even fly

had better learn

ask
the fossil
of the
dinosaur
who
might be
laying next to you
when
what remains of you
is uncovered
from beneath the earth
whose future
has been eclipsed
