Worksheet ink
Dark blue hue
Recall those sheets from elementary school?
The scent of the toner had a pleasant musk
I’d grasp the paper with both hands still warm to the touch
Knowing that I was going to ace every question
And show all of my work to prove I’d mastered the lesson
My teacher once caught me sniffing a worksheet
She smiled, did the same with her handouts, no need to speak
This public school, it’s teachers, and even the worksheets understood me
In that Township school I was a prisoner, but here I was free
