Alone at the water cooler,
surrounded by people who
feel like strangers on a crowded subway.
Talking and laughing among themselves
like I'm not here,
like I haven't worked in the same crummy cubicle next to theirs
for the last 17 years.
High pitched voices,
exaggerated laughter
nonsensical chitter chatter;
isolating me into non-existence
as I stand alone
thirsty for a drink.
