Hearing Impaired

Cuz, you dead wrong

Hiding behind the memory of my uncle and auntie. The manipulation tactics formed as weapons against me. Death brings out the best and worst in people close to them. A truth that is so needed but yet so grim.

The Belief

Being believed in is what I believe in. Believing in you as much as I believe in me. No matter what we go through no one can make me believe otherwise. Believe it or not even the nonbelievers believe in the belief too. They know what believing in someone can do. But they believe in keeping that to themselves.

Recognizing Black History

It's because I want to. It's because I need to. It's because I have to. It's because of who I am. It's because of my children. It's because of the love of my people. It's because of the past present and future struggle. It's because of what my black history means to me. And not because it's the month of February.

The Possibility

Is it possible that PTSD affects not only the combat veteran? Is it possible that there are countless PTSD victims that display symptoms but because of the system they're treated as criminals? Is it possible that illegal traffic stops in most cases lead to situations where if you're fortunate enough to survive you're left traumatized? Is it possible that the boys in blue contribute so much more to the dysfunction of the family? At the very least PTSD is worth talking about.

Played Myself

"Your body's here with me" by the O'jays bumped in my head on repeat. Looking in her eyes for any sign of remorse as she prepared to leave. She was proud of who she was and being herself is all she ever tried to be. Suddenly, I realized it was nothing wrong with her, it was something wrong with me.

The Bigger Picture

My present and even my future hardships will go as quickly as they came. Beyond the temporary troubles of the world, my focus is on what will remain. Can you picture what it is I'm sayin'? Just as sure as my present will be my past, none of my suffering is guaranteed to last. And because I'm one of His "the here and now" is too ugly to be my story, mine will be remembered as "the beautiful promise of eternal glory."

The Big Picture

I am not well but what else can go wrong? Nothing! I am exactly where I belong. Praying. Hoping. Scoping. Coping.

The Cool Fool

A fool according to the standards of this world And never has being a fool been so cool than right now

Two wrongs

It's as if she's been here before. Experiencing everything all over again. Nothing new and with no surprises. Never in a rush to do anything. Moving like there's always enough time. She says next to nothing at all but takes it all in. Win lose or draw her facial expression remains the same. You'd think she'd be hip to the game but that would be too much like right. She moves different when she's dating. She falls head over heels with the quickness. Willing to do whatever, whenever for her new love. Nothing or no one else matters to her. Unfortunately, not even love ones who warned her about guys feeding off her need to be loved by the wrong person.

Conflicted

As a kid a wise woman once said to me that if you need to take a weapon to a party for protection then you shouldn't go. Nowadays as a man the only party I'll attend is in the house of the Lord. Seeing as I really need to party, what shall I wear?
