My fourteen year old nephew is biracial and asked me one day, he said unc, what side do I choose, I love my white mother cause she is my mother, but I recognize my father and the black in me too, so what do I do, I said go to the fridge and get me one brown egg and one white egg, one so I can teach you a lesson, two, cause it’s breakfast time and I’m hungry as hell, so I pulled out a skillet, my oil and heated up the pan, I said give me both eggs, I cracked em and watch em fizzle under the heat and asked him what do you see, he said they both yellow with a white outside, I said you have good eyes, but let me break it down even more, see no matter if its a brown shell or a white shell, when you crack them open, they are equally yolked, both contain 6 grams of protein, 70 calories, is low on carbs and has many high quality vitamins and minerals, both can be cooked up the same way, fried, over easy or my personal favorite, scrambled with a sprinkle of cheese, and even crazier to believe is that if you leave them whole and put em in a pot of boiling water, both of their shells will stay intact until their both cracked and shown to be soft and edible on the inside, see nephew, humans are the same way, your fathers skin is brown, your mothers skins is white, but inside we are equally yolked, we each have 11 major organ systems, 8 pints of blood, one brain, one heart and a liver that gets ***ed up if you drink too much alcohol, trust me I know, but what you need to know, is that the world does not see your yolks, they only like to see your shell, so be mindful of your dress, you can instantly be looked on as a suspect and be hit with charges that equal a dozen, the same way these eggs are packaged, watch the reaction that happens when they see pops and moms together, some will say love is whatever, but others will say they sold out, the same way these eggs sell out come Easter time, wait for the time it comes for you to select your girlfriends, if you choose a sister, some may ask why is she with this half and half , but because you got a lil tint, if you choose blonde hair and blue eyes, you might be despised by those who look more like your father, see Imma give it to you straight nephew, we’re all eggs, but there is a notion that we each have a different nutritional value, that we are not laid the same, that one should be priced higher than the other, when in truth, we all crack under pressure, we all get scrambled at times, we all at any time could be mishandled and spilled out on concrete blocks, so if you wanna know why the chicken crossed the ***ing road, it was because she was tired of dealing with human bull, cause no matter what color eggs they lay, all of em produce chicks, the same we produce in society, but your outer shell is always judged in the same society, so being part white, you may sometimes be looked at as right, but being part black, there is a chance you may get shot before being asked to step out of the car, so no nephew, I don’t want you to choose sides, I want you to choose what type of egg do you wanna be, because regardless of how you get cooked, the world will consume you, its okay to be hard boiled, be tough but have a soft spot inside of you, its okay to be scrambled, cause sometimes life requires us to say *** it and lump everything together and handle it at the same time, it is okay to be fried, a lil crisp around the edges, because truthfully, no one wants perfection, they want scars to know they have survived battles, it is okay to simply be an egg, egg omelet, eggs benedict, eggs full of bacon bits and devilized, but what you need to remember most of all, is that your yolks are all the same, don’t let anyone, tell you any different
