Forgive/Forget
Years of years of verbal abuse.
Years of being his punching bag,
Torn down,
A decade of walking on egg shells,
Afraid to speak out,
Speak up.
You say, I should forgive,
I asked how when I can’t forget?
An old lady sitting under a tree,
Stopped me,
She said “Sit next to me,
I got somethings to say.”
I sat down,
She continues,
“Take heed to my words.
For, what I say God told me to tell you”.
I thought she was crazy,
But I was hurt,
From all the pain you caused,
So, I sat and listened,
Intentionally,
Now I am telling you what,
She said to me.
This is what she had to say,
You can forgive without forgetting,
Forgiveness is for you,
My child,
Forgiveness gives you a peace of mind,
Once you forgive,
You start to heal,
Try it and see.
Never forget,
What you’ve been through,
Never forget,
What he did to you,
Remembering,
Gives you strength,
Remembering,
Stops you from making the same mistake,
Of loving a man,
Whom doesn’t love you,
Forgive him,
For your sake,
For him,
For the sake,
Of your children.
Forgiveness will bring you joy,
Forgiveness is the key to heal.
Never forget,
For remembering,
Will show you caution,
Teach you patience.
I thanked her,
Went about my way,
Rebuild myself,
Regain my strength,
Over time,
To this day,
I cautious with my heart.
