Oh say can you see our women and children being driven from the father and husband authority figure so they can possibly create more s and es, so by the dawn of the early light, our lights will become dim and thats one more black speck residing in darkness permanently, what so proudly those guns are held, as the twilights from the barrel illuminate more funeral homes, whose broad stripes and bright stars are earned on the streets, through perilous fights with our own kind over blocks that we have no ownership over because your projects were a project to project us to prison, ore the ramparts they watch, planting their flag over the walls they kept us in throughout segregation, cause we were merely their colored entertainment, and integration while it seemed nice, made me realize that I can’t go to no city in America and find a lil Africa anymore, and the rockets red glare, those bombs bursting in air, ask Philly how they felt about those bombs in 1985, ask Tulsa how those rockets caused a red glare over their city as it burned from white mobs, and that gave proof through many of nights, that your flag which stands for oppresion, injustice, medical cost that won’t allow cancer patients to get treated, shootings of unarmed black men, deportation of Mexicans who owned this ***ing country before you ever step foot in it, was still there, O say does that star spangled banner yet wave, blowing in the wind of the dying breath of those who fight for this country, yet look like me, and are still labeled dustys in uniforms, so you think by giving me a medal that takes away how society will see me, you think by giving me a medal that I won’t be racial profiled, *** nah and *** you, o’er the land and of the free, whats free, we pay for medical, dental, I don’t know who the *** FICA is but she sounds like my bitter ex wife, and the home of the brave, you right, cause it takes bravery everyday for a black man to step out of his front door, this is your beloved anthem, you play it before every professional contest, your nba finals, your world series, your super bowls, but see america is truly a one hit wonder that constantly gets played over and over, so the is beat into my head, so even when I don't wanna hear this song, it has become like a severe case of PTSD, I tried, I really tried to wrap myself in the red, white and blue, but in turn they wrapped me in poverty, racism and cointel pro, so as those stars spangled, my ancestors dangled from trees, and forgive me for not placing my hand over my heart anymore, I can’t cause America has left me heartless
