Much has been written on truth and lies,
And it remains that of the two, truth remains
True and the tentacles of lies, remain lies.
America, America, a land conceived in truth;
Born and raised a lie; nourished by full breasts
Dripping with the milk of negative goodness:
In her beginnings, America penned a great truth
To be lived out a great lie…all men…equally created…
Endowed with certain rights…inalienable…liberties…
Pursuit of happiness…implying freedom, justice
And equality: all implied truths
Cloaked, daggered, and veiled in cunning lies.
Yet, it cannot be denied that America has treated
All of its people of color equally; for she has indeed
denied them all—equally—their evident inalienable rights.
Indeed, in America, bigotry and racism has always been
Democratic, without prejudice to none, and assured
To all who are of color; and that’s no lie! It’s the truth!
