When school was in full swing, for several reasons
Many prayed for snow days, but Covid-19 came
Instead; now we are all admonished to please pray for
That day the world returns to what was once normal;
However, this time we must be careful what we pray for.
Let us never forget the centuries when chattel slavery,
Lack of the right to vote and Jim Crow segregation were

And don’t forget to remember that it is still normal when

Thus, perhaps it would be better if we should pray for
The return of the sacredness of that blessed humanity
Giving spiritual focus to the fact that all lives matter
And that equanimity and justice must know no disparity.
Like all the living allegorical lessons we are being taught,
This proverbial pandemonium too shall have its closeout
And we’ll be given the opportunity to live out the tutoring.
Thus, let us ever be mindful that guiding wisdom is found

And it is there we must dwell in establishing the new normal.
No, the return will not be easy; neither was the Middle Passage
And the peculiar institution that it fostered for centuries.
Thus, let us again be mindful that the Ancestors did more with less
And we with more—despite the collateral damage—must do more
That those who will call us Ancestors will be able to complete
