Remember, George...
like how many times
seasons, decades, generations
we have been waiting, anticipating
left, with only scattered remains
of the dreams of survivors
of a holocaust unspoken chains unbroken,
lies prepared professionally delivered
kneeling in prayer asking for guidance,
for justice denied, waiting in silence
for the verdict to be read
calling to Heaven for deliverence
walls of police anticipating violence
should justice prove shy...
like the man whose guilt or innocence
may somehow be in question...
but somehow no longer
kept his heartbeat alive
with a last sliver of hope
all but extinguished
the execution by knee to the neck
served deliberately serving notice
despite evidence to the contrary
the thin blue line held strong
no legal defense extended
and he did not survive
cameras present, may tell stories
but, dead men tell no lies
