The basis of the original fight?
And when that wasn’t enough
When the going got tough
The states desired to keep their slaves
Or toss them into the rivers
Or bury them in mass graves
Nameless
Faceless things only three-fifths of a man
Close your eyes and sniff the campfire
They desire
To return to that time just as fast as they can
But it seems we didn’t listen to what was said
As they whip out their paint cans
And change everything from blue to red
We sat around the campfire
During the last few elections
Drinking wine and playing spades in the dark
Until the last spark of light
Disappeared into the last log
And a thick fog rose from the ground
Sleepy slumber
Muttering things we never meant
We overslept sound of the battle bugle
Wiped our eyes
And found the orange god was the president
Packing politicians and judges
And even the court of supreme conservatives
In case he stepped away
His orange rule still lives
In signs and code words
We continue to ignore
The red carpet rolls forth
Will he reemerge in 2024?
