when I was a young boy
sitting on grandfather's knee
I looked at his face
while he spoke to me
there were so many things he told me
I know now are true
he said, "trust not in man
for he will fail you"
"trust in the Lord for
His promise He'll keep
His angels will watch you
while you're asleep
keep your mind steadfast
on Jesus alone
and one day in glory
you'll sit next to his throne"
I watched as his eyes
swelled up with his tears
I remember so well now
after all of these years
all that he told me
I would never forget
he trusted in Jesus
who had never failed him yet
so, I trust not in man
nor in his material things
there's no lasting joy
in whatever it brings
it may be bright
and shiny today
but when the morning comes
it will wither away
grandfather has gone to glory
and is waiting for me
he has run the good race
and now claims victory
one day I'll see him
just beyond the blue
he told me to, "trust not in man
for he will fail you.."
