Over the course of my days
My brothers, cousins, family and friends, in various ways
Provided me with context
Guiding me as often as my parents, church, school, the streets, right and left
On walks to the store, and back home from practice
Provided me with hundreds of landmarks, like an atlas
Hours in the back seat, spent on road trips
Splitting up Penny Candy, but never the cherry fun dip!
Footnotes in my biography, they helped me to make sense
I’d listen to their wisdom, as I dragged sticks along a fence
The feedback and sounds would resonate
Years of encouragement and direction, drove me to be great
Learning from their achievements and mistakes
I worked to return the favor, in time
To contribute my own footnotes and advice down the line
