grey clouds gathering
together
whispering amongst themselves
freedom
just for the day
and the sun gave way for an hour or two
freedom
for just a little while
raindrops falling on my head
hiding what once was electric blue
high above me
the clouds whispering
freedom
amongst themselves
between each long and lingering draw
homemade sangria on ice
within my large red plastic cup
gentle conversation flow from
bare feet on lounge chairs
and sunglasses on the outside open deck
our freedom of choice
not to get up
whispers of
freedom
sounds of the pitter patter of little feet
attached to a parental hand
not to much farther to go
until multicolored beach chairs and umbrellas
are firmly planted in the sand
endlessly
they passed by
in blissful freedom for the day
libations, Frisbees and footballs tossed
just across the way
sandy dunes seen ahead
the ocean breeze did not keep them still
potato salad and sweet corn in the kitchen
hot dogs and burgers cooking on the grill
and I stood at the edge of the shore
freely watching the ebb and flow of the waves
hypnotized
watching the repetition of receding moments
so powerfully it behaves
grey clouds gathering once more
election
unanimous decision to clear the thunderous skies
allowing for a celebratory fireworks display
below
throngs on the beach are watching
freely
with adoring celebratory eyes
and this was my day of liberation
found ninety minutes south on the Parkway
beachside haven on the inlet
grey clouds clearing above me
I was in Lavallette
enjoying freedom for the day
