Everything that glitters is gold. I dont know why you were expected anything different. Sometimes you have to polish it. We are all trying to answer one question, "who am I?" So dont identify with anything that is less than you. Dont try to polish something that doesnt need to be polished.
You are a genius, you just dont know it yet. Or maybe you do know it and you are hiding in the shadows or hiding in someone else's shadow. No matter which one you are doing, both are crimes against what you could have been.
You are a leader and should always aspire to greatness. Stop asking and just take it. Lets put in the work to be who we were meant to be. Thats all glitter.
