When I was volunteered to speak about Diversity, equity, and inclusion, I did so with sincerity
It was beneficial to a majority of my coworkers, but for me is was negative charity
This work didn’t increase my pay or opportunities for advancement
I didn’t learn anything new, nor experience a ‘cultural enhancement’
It was just more free labor that I gifted, albeit not under duress
It was never my intention to entertain or impress
But I’m not alone, others who look like me also share this strange responsibility
Who else can talk about race and discrimination without being offensive or demanding a fee?
