If I survive this crisis
I’ll know and do better next time
Give up my self righteousness and vices
Pay down my debit and save every damn dime!
As the time passes, months feel like days
My path was once so certain, now it feels like a maze
Cognizant of my responsibilities, yet I fail almost every time
To prepare, plan, and make forward progress
On the gridiron of life, I lost thousands of yards behind scrimmage line!
To clear today’s hurdles and roadblocks
I must be as ruthless as a crocodile and as cunning as a fox!
As tomorrow’s obstacles mutate, we no longer have immunity
Even if I survive, what about others in our community?
The unhoused, sick, shut in elders, and impoverished youth?
Who don’t have the luxuries of time, money, and power learn the truth
That life is a short but serious game, that most were born to lose
When I survive this crises, I promise to help others to win and choose!
