He felt apathy and distance from them
She, nothing but frustration and a void
He wondered what changed
Instead of a dialog, nothing but bitterness and complaints
He felt invisible, his efforts unnoticed
Even his daughter ignored him more and more each day
For months and years, the sentiment grew
Ever since his car accident… his presence felt… diminish
He asked his daughter, if he was really here
She laughed, then cried
He asked his wife to pinch him to prove that he wasn’t dreaming
She laughed, then cried
They both heard him, but never replied with words
Like a strange dream that can’t be controlled but must be experienced
He became an extra in his own movie!
He never got sick,
No close calls on the highway,
Nobody called or noticed him,
Work was too easy,
Life wasn’t the challenge that it once was,
There were no more surprises,
Nothing to look forward too,
He was confused and numb
Until he finally realized
Why his wife kept stealing the sheets from his side of the bed each night
Why his daughter never looked him in his eyes anymore,
How fast she’d grown, she was just a baby!
The neighbor’s dogs never barked when he walked past
He longer eats!
No longer sleeps!
He never survive that car accident on that icy bridge years ago!
He was just been pretending to live on, mimicking his old routine
Unaware of his own absence from reality over the years
Too afraid to realize that everyone moved on
But he didn’t
Wait… I’m dead?
