building towards the present
people gathered as
a means for survival

a silent prayer
pent up tension, seeking release
a respite following
a major capture of significant game
while making preparations for a feast
now releasing in a common sense of joy
a feeling of relief
a sweet song of contentment
perhaps started by parents tasked
to provide for the survival
of the family/tribe
one who would know
a soul... finding happiness
in this moment of success
a happy youth smile beaming
every significant event has meaning
written upon the faces of all
causing even those normally shy
to burst out in spontaneous joy
dramatic posturing proceeds to
elevate naturally to dance
food is shared
and people know their worth
contributing freely, openly
respecting elders
elders are revered
because when things go bad
who show how
those who know how
do... there is no confusion.
responsibilities are shared
as they sometimes do
they have seen it all before
know just what to do
provide stability
are conduits for continuity
with a sense of gratitude
