saw it yesterday
scurrying underneath the bed
hiding safely in the shadows
scampering into the darkness of the closet
I chased it
looked for the flashlight in the drawer
by the time I returned
shaking the pile of dress shoes
and low hanging clothes from the hangers
it was gone
I know it exists
somewhere
saw the commercial on TV
it was on sale
special discount if I purchased it in bulk
wondering
if I needed that many
and
who I would give the extras to
I know it's history
it's origins
it has changed the course of history
many times over
so many lives lost
in countless wars
so many lives found
in the aftermath and ashes
and aftermaths of
wrinkled bedsheets in the morning
I don't know it's current rate
the market changes daily
all I know is that
it's always a sure bet
the percentages rise every time I check the
stock market pages
when I find this thing
hiding somewhere in the house
I will have it appraised
enclose it in crystal
and display it in the living room
for visiting special guests
still haven't found it
chased it all day yesterday too
finally discovering it in plain sight
late in the evening
written on a notepad on my night stand
clues were left during the day
compiled
configured
and the
who-dunnit
pieced together
and found on my notepad
on my nightstand
in plain site
I didn't need to chase it
it chased me
all I needed to do was
slow down
sit down
and write today's poem
hiding there for me
in plain sight
