(last one... back to the business of being a well-behaved poet)
I was not really unfaithful
or having a cheating moment
a relapse of the days
or more like
uneven
but gloriously blissful
intoxicating and
unapologetic nights
when I came to her shores to sow my wild oats
and you
up and about
doing this
doing that
no unusual expression on your face
as I sat here
ashamedly and apologetic about my
unintentional moment of unfaithfulness
not sure what lit the fuse
something on the TV
something out of the blue made me think of her
and that moment
or
moments we shared so long ago
when I got up early
to make donuts with extra oats
and whole wheat
we were very health conscious then
her smell
her touch
the aroma of the aftermaths
it all came over me
wasn’t looking both ways before I crossed the street of
unintentional unfaithfulness in the moment
I should have
and it hit me
sending me flying across the living room
on to this couch
prostrate
hoping you didn’t notice the crash landing
and the burning embers of this moment of indiscretion
apologetic
I am
still and always
faithful to you
and be assured
this was all
unintentional
though
in some similar moment in the future
can't promise it won't happen again
it will still be
unintentional
and I will be
silently
apologetic
not asking for the moment to come
then
I noticed the expression on your face
after the atmosphere cleared of my dusty
rocky landing
don’t think you noticed me staring at you
my moment
already gone with the wind
like Scarlet
holding her petticoat in place
scampering down her Tara road
noticing now the
smile on your face
wondering
what moment of unintentional unfaithfulness
might be on your mind
