Block Symphony

Hear the block breathe —tires sing, neon hums, kids trade futures like marbles. Some days the sky looks low, but we learn to bounce it back with our knees. I walk with my pockets empty and my chest full of loud plans. Neighbors wave like old flags, mothers cook miracles on two burners, and the corner preacher shouts hope into the cold. We move in rhythm —grind to a drumbeat only we can hearYou learn to be soft with the small things, hard with the world that wants to break youKeep your head up — the stars still poke through the city lightWe make music out of what’s left. Mother Tongue. She taught me grammar for the heart —how to say sorry and mean it,how to hold tight when the world loosensHer laughter smoothed the jagged corners of my childhoodHer hands wrote prayers on the back of my wristsSometimes I owe her the world and still fall shortSometimes I call her and she just knowsShe’s the first sermon I ever heard —plain truth wrapped in cornbread and cautionIf I ever make it, I make it for her,and if I fail, she still shows up with towels and quietLate Night GospelThe city sleeps wrong —sirens make lullabies for restless souls. But in the dark my soul finds its rhythm. I kneel on thrift-store rugs, name my debts, my small victories, then whisper to the sky like it’s familyFaith ain’t a shiny thing. It’s the steady foot on the stair when the elevator stopsIt’s calling tomorrow even though today bit hardIf you want proof, watch me work — I pray with my hands and hustle with my heartSomebody once told me — keep going I doMirror GameLook me in the glass —don’t blink at the parts you don’t likeI got scars that map my decisions, and a jaw that learned to clinch through stormsI could blame the city, the friends, the grass on fire, but the reflection don’t argueI change my shirt, my tone, my goalsI don’t pretend I ain’t scared of losing what I built, but I also ain’t scared to rebuild it strongerAccountability is a heavy word, but it’s mine nowIf you want me to be different, watch me get to work. I’ll meet you where honesty lives Ya dig?
