These are the embers of a primal fire.
Within their memory, residual heat
Is legacy that signals full desire
When life in Nature's heart increases beat.
They are: the latent leaf, expectant mind:
Momentum coasting through the winter's plays.
These smokeless embers, dreaming summer, find
They have, beyond the source of longer days,
Affinity for hand that holds the sun.
In heat's affinity for heat, their flame
Of green, from germ of life, when it's aim.
And March, with breath divine, is destined blow
Their dampened fire until they green and glow.
