In the welfare office the lady tells me for one child it's ffifty dollars,
and for two it's a hundred, we would have to give you plus these
rules and regulations.....
Food stamps, only for food,
the two hundred dollars for medicine and
personal items of course, and oh by the way...
No Man, No Men,
No extras at all,
You'll have to love yourself,
No Men at all.
I looked at her in a puzzled way,
and as the woman I am, with pride
and feelings I told her; I will not crawl
into your world to hide,
I will not hide from the reality of work
and pain, to seek shelter in your self proclaimed
safety net of rules and regulations.
No more of giving me just what you want or think I
should have.
I've got my pride and I'll have my Man,
my love and my own life.
I will survive without your rules,
For you see, through this all...
I'll still be free to be Me.
