We tell them that beauty is skin deep

but to live by societies standards/ we are made to believe

that we must  conform

leave our thoughts at the door

wipe our feet as we enter

"we don't need any misleading of the younger masses"

just like that

wipe it under the rug/ fix your mug

shot in the face by the harsh words

a disgrace is what they called us

the very people who built this nation

beauty they tell you is what we see on these programs

that were set in place to brainwash

telling lies to our visions

and we envision nothing more

what they don't speak of is the lack of care that we look nothing like they

and they look nothing like us

at least externally

told to hold our head down as we're being spoken to

afraid if you we were to look up 

we will see the bullshyt they planned for

us

hold your head up brother

hold your head up sister

discouragement is meant to break you

encouragement is meant to uplift you

and I am here to encourage

you/ backtrack

put those shoes on and show them the beauty of art

the depth of our skin

and I'm not talking about our color

hold high your crown and show them that cracks can be mended.
