Three to Nine: Understanding Born

We are the offspring of the oppressed so we went erratic regularly (Went E.R. = winter)

You taught us

Filled our heads with those brainstorms of how earth quaked in our history

Showed us the cold world in hot southern summers, had us wishing for lukewarm gray area

We watched how clouded judgement showered us with hydrants of racism

You fought us

Lashed out on us in more ways than one

Engraved whips and chains so deep into our DNA that even our free descendants use them

Mixed our pigment with your complexion so like eye lashes your offspring could block the sun

Encaged us then framed us, had us missing the big picture so we didn't remain us

Gave us scraps, we gave you soul food, had us beating our brothers, and trading our souls too

Tried our children as adults so the pen raised our kids like cartoon character

And to the reflection of mankind

You are my brother and my sister because like me you endured the hardships of divide and conquer

Our condition, mere step kids, prehistoric imprints in our mother's land

We grew immune to the dog bites, public humiliation, unfair jailing, degrading, and profiling

We learned that public officials only refereed for the "home" team and the laws of justice applied to just us

We are the forgotten, a gene ration that decoded right now action as ribonucleic pro teens
