Freedom Ain’t Free

They fight for the freedom of a country that isn’t free

Forged in hypocrisy

Aim the bullet at the eagle for sport

And still somehow believe this is a democracy

Pledge allegiance to the flag for which it stands

A life of liberty, an indivisible nation under God

And justice? For all?

We are the ones who took the fall and recall the sacrifice daily

How do I look my own child in their eyes

When another man’s daughter fell to the ground at my feet, bloodied and marred

From the explosives created for me

As I tell her to step back, wondering inconclusively, is she strapped with explosives

But I can’t pull the trigger

How do I look my wife, my daughter, my mother in their eyes when

I couldn’t prevent the Viet Cong from knocking the teeth out of one woman’s mouth,

And pouring gasoline down her throat

The Point

What is the point of chaos

But to excavate our breathing

To curse or praise the life that we’re received in

To make us question the pretense of our dispositions

To move us to our final missions

To gather pen and write about our senses

To make poets and poetry listen

Because what is one without the other

But listless

Shiftless

Gift-less

Are there no gifts in words

That never read us

The silent imaginary tears

That only fear us

Can be wiped away by Gods hands

We aren’t here to reprimand

Or re-brand

Do we do this

Because we can

I’m tired of exploring the meanings

Trying to make existence make sense

For any number of reasons

If we aren’t bleeding and wounded

Are we even living

What is the virtue of your praying

The Seed (For KDH)

Do the ancient bloodlines

Even dream

Or do they lie asleep

In forever mourning of the past

No hope for the future

Given the derision of illusion

As history repeats

We dare step into the footprints

In which we could only dare to dream

Our feet could fit into

Given all the blood they shed for me

Unknowingly

To have a future

Did they forge ahead for you and me

Or was it sheerly

Survival

Did they believe in any legends

Of tomorrow

And how far have we fallen from the tree

Are the roots feeding on hypocrisy

More blood wine

Bureaucracy

That can shed no more tears for humanity

Drowning in their own ignorance

Yet they still call us s

And have our very seeds

Regarding themselves as the same

But these parasitic, epiphytic, li...

Oh, am I trippin’ on your

Pain

Ingested-through-veins, when you’re

Only

Days     

Away from your next fix

Days away from your next

Drip-drip

Can’t begin to

Tell you, in how-many-words-and-ways

It nails you

Oh, but you’re

Not trying to hear that

I can’t attest to the

Sheer-facts, while you’re slipping-into-relapse

Ending all your dreams that never began

Please tell me fiend that

I strive to believe in you

Touch you as no one

Has before

Integrate your

Soul as you have my

Body -you made me

I’m exclusively yours

I’d give you gold

And silver, riches

Beyond the world

If that was your

Joy

-but I have none

-all I have is the

Love in me

That is yours

And it keeps

On giving

-unconditional

Love feelings

Only you can

Attest to

So deep

You forget your name

-from whence you came

Even where you are going

There’s no offense

In knowing

The truth

So help me God

To destroy this

Insanity

-it’s starting to annoy

Me

A rarity, a breech

And I impeach all

And everyone

To try the same

I’m shameless

Following the tide

-swept up with the

Sound

-longing for freedom

We feel the same
