Books piled to the ceiling
Do not disturb me I’m reading
On my desk paper scattered
In my mind titer tater
Cheese crackers on a platter
Ice tea and chicken dipped in batter
I’m trying to find
The missing piece to my mind
Before my brain is dead
And my thoughts are bled
Inside blood is blue
Outside its red
I’m not hungry because I’m fed
I don’t eat alone
I break bread
Trying to remember
Things the old folks said
In order to keep my head
Above the ground
These bricks I lay
Tons they weigh
To get this project on the way
All I need is one more day
I don’t live where I stay
But one day
I’ll be on my way
To another place
Occupy another space
Tick tock goes the clock
No time to waste
